Harwood Island Cleanup

March 4, 2010

Beautiful Harwood Island, a traditional and sacred place for the Sliammon First Nation, is uninhabited yet its beaches are covered with styrofoam and other debris. Styrofoam poses a choking hazard to the 30 or so Orcas in the area as well as Sea Lions and local Sea Otters (which are protected under the Species at Risk Act).

The Sliammon Environmental Stewardship Coordinator is organizing a Beach Cleanup for the weekend of March 13 & 14 and has asked PIP to help get volunteers. If you are interested in helping, please call the PIP offices at 604 483 8987 or email us at info@pebpond.com for more information on how you can help.
